Busy with books...

I posted here a couple of months back about the publication of my first children's book Ar Shiúl leis na Daoine Maithe/ Away with the Fairies. It's been so much fun sharing my little fairy tale with children and big kids alike. I thought it might be interesting today to blog about some of the author events I'm involved in at the minute.

Book Launch, January 12th 2013

Back in January I launched the book officially in O'Mahony's - my all time favourite Limerick bookshop. I used to work in the shop back in 2000 so it was brilliant to be back again selling my own book this time! The staff couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful. I was delighted too to be introduced by the very talented Roisin Meaney who not only writes beautifully but also arrived armed with a selection of delectable homemade treats - yum!

I was really impressed with some of the children I met too, especially those who were asking me questions in Irish about the story. It's lovely to hear the Irish language being spoken outside of an educational context. A big thanks to everyone who came along and supported the book. All copies of the book sold out on the day, which is definitely a big thrill for a new author!

World Book Day, 7th March 2013

I'll be back in O'Mahony's again on the 7th of March for World Book Day. I'll be chatting with around 120 students from schools around Limerick. Yep, you read that right - 120 (gulp!). It should be a great day. For more information on the events that O'Mahony's are organising to celebrate World Book Day, click on the link here.

Seachtain na Gaeilge, 4-17 Márta 2013

As Seactain na Gaeilge approaches, I'm gearing up to do a few school and library visits in Limerick and Clare.

Friday the 8th of March
I'll be bombing around in my little motor car on Friday as I make two library visits. Here's hoping I can find my way!
  • 10.15: Sixmilebridge Library
  • 11.45: Shannon Library

Thursday the 14th of March
  • 1.20: Lisnagry National School
Thursday is going to be a blast from the past as I return to my old primary school - Lisnagry National School. The school has changed a lot over the years with a new principal - Michael Feeney -  and extensive refurbishments. Still, I'm looking forward to walking those corridors again and seeing how much the place has changed. Here's hoping they never found out about the manky banana sandwiches that someone smushed down the back of the radiator in the prefab...

UPDATE: One more gig to announce! On Wednesday the 13th of March I'll be talking to students at St. Philomena's National School in Limerick. Looking forward to it!
